The following are some frequently
asked questions about residential services. What are residential
supports?
The
people that ADD
serves through Residential Services live in a variety of
settings. Some people choose an ICF/MR group home, which
provides a "total package" of services, such as medical,
dietary, psychiatry, occupational and physical therapy, etc…
In ICF/MR group homes, people live in a same-sex or coed home
with 4 to 8 other people. The ICF/MR homes are licensed
facilities with a high degree of regulation and oversight
provided by outside regulators.
Other
people choose an RFW group home. The RFW group homes are also
licensed and regulated facilities, but with somewhat less
rules and regulation than an ICF/MR group home. In ADD's RFW
group homes, people live with 3 to 5 other people in same-sex
or coed homes.
ADD also provides services to
individuals in their own homes. These Supported Living
services are fully customized, based on assessments and the
identified needs of the individual. Based on funding and
needs, people in Supported Living live by themselves or with 1
to 2 other people. Who would
provide my supports?
Each
person who chooses ADD's services is supported by well-trained
staff, including direct care staff, home supervisors and
residential managers. These staff work to create an
environment in which people can develop their skills and
independence. What training is
provided staff?
Before
starting to work in any home, direct care staff and home
supervisors are given a full week's training on skills that
they need. This training includes Self Determination, Client
Rights, Safety Procedures, Behavior Supports, Medication
Administration and Health Services and much more. Following
this classroom training, staff receive additional in-home
training at the site in which they will be serving and are
also taught by their supervisors to become mentors for the
individuals living in that home.
What if my
staff member is sick? Does ADD still provide my
services?
ADD staff provide backup for each
other. In addition, a supervisor will be available to
assist. What if I need to reach
someone in an emergency?
ADD's nurses and management provide
24-hour, 7 days a week on-call services. They are always just
a phone call away. Is ADD compliant
with all County, State and Federal rules and regulations?
Yes.
ADD
regularly has visits from state and county surveyors who
certify that ADD's services meet quality of care standards.
ADD also has an internal Quality Assurance team that functions
outside of the residential service group. This impartial group
regularly conducts mock surveys which review services to
assure that the highest service standards are met. How does someone
qualify for receiving
ADD's residential services?
A
person must quality for services
from the local county board of mental retardation and
developmental disabilities in order to receive services. The
intake criteria are based on assessment of activities of daily
living (ADL) and psychological assessments.
To receive residential services from
ADD, a person must have the capacity to grow in several skill
areas. Personal care and household tasks are examples of areas
that people often want to gain in independence. What skill development
services are
provided in ADD's homes?
In ADD's homes, we provide quality
services that focus on increasing self-sufficiency in home and
community daily living skills such as:
Community mobility Health and safety Dietary needs Medical
assistance/training Shopping in the community Transportation Cooking
and household tasks Money management Recreation Personal care
